New York Times 10 Best Books of 2011

Just last week, I was bemoaning how few of the New York Times Notable Books of 2011 I had read.  Yesterday the NYT rolled out their Ten Best Books of 2011.  I feel much better.  I have read four of the five fiction titles, and the fifth is slated for future reading.  Is it wrong to feel so validated by a list?  Probably.  I still haven’t read any of the nonfiction picks though.  There’s always next year.

Eleanor Henderson, author of the excellent Ten Thousand Saints (my review) – a Best Book of 2011, offered the following additional breakdown via the Twitter: Some NYT Top 5 Fiction stats: 2/5 = @UVAMFA grads. 3/5 = women. & 4/5 = debut novels (except some guy named King.)

I feel just as bad about myself as I did when you posted the top 100 list. Thanks Tim.
