Never Grow Up

Like just about every one in my age bracket/socioeconomic group, I’ve been mourning the loss of film-maker/screenwriter John Hughes this week.  I thought the Molly Ringwold essay in the New York Times was pretty cool. I can’t tell you how saddened I was to learn that Ferris Bueller grew up to be a Republican toady/lawyer whose claims to hi-jinks now lean toward sneaking Ken Starr out the back door of court houses.  Awesome! I am so bummed out.

And then I saw the new trailer for the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are movie, and all was right in the world.

Geez, that made me cry more than the Blind Side trailer, and I’ve seen it before. Can you maybe post something dumb for the next couple days?

I know what you mean. I was pretty broken up to learn the model for Ferris was a republican toady, too…oh, wait, you mean the Wild Things trailer…don’t worry, dumb is what I do best.

I’m glad that the word “douchebag” came back into currency in time for me to apply it to Edward McNally.
    Edward McNally: What a douchebag.

I think the term “lying douchebag” may not be too strong. He repeated outright lies about Al Gore, and it turns out that he’s something like six years younger than John Hughes. I find his veracity to be questionable, probably because he’s a lying douchebag.

But the real question is, can we take the kiddos to see this Wild Things movie, or is it too wild?

Eggers’ book based on the movie is geared towards 9-12 year olds.
