E-Book News
The Kindle still costs $299 too much.
In other news, BGB Contributor Russ Marshalek says he might be tempted to buy a non-Kindle e-book reader if the price and terms were right. He says this in Wired Magazine. What?!
Tim O’Reilly says the Kindle needs to open its proprietary format or die.

If I lose, drop, misplace a book, or get stuck in the rain or drop it in a puddle, I’m out 10, 20 maybe 25 bucks.
Drop, lose or have a Kindle get wet or just stolen and be out 300 bucks.
No thanks.
I like books better anyway.
Actually, I’m tired of hearing about the Kindle…they just keep trying to push this thing…expecting people to think, in this economy, that $300 is cheap.

My favorite quote from that article was this: “[T]he publishing industry has said e-books account for less than 1 percent of book sales. But it is a fast-growing, competitive segment.” It’s all a sales job, and a rather clumsy one at that.
