Back in my day
Future conversation with my daughter:
Our backpacks weighed 20 lbs. On a good day. If you had two science classes on the same day, you could be looking at 45 lbs. Easy. And then the instructors would hand out these things called “copies” or make you buy a collated collection of “supplemental material.” I can show you what text books used to look like, I have three boxes of them in the attic. Your mother has another two at least…
Suddenly resistance to the Kindle seems futile.

Funny. I saw the story on the new Kindle on WSJ.com and immediately came here to read the counterpoint.

I asked a friend at the WSJ if they would subsidize my Kindle. For the record, I’m not ordering one, I just see where a college kid might one useful.

Hi there. I think The Kindle is a great idea for weight reduction in one’s backpack.
But nothing can ever(or should ever) replace the sweet smell of ink on a page!(I know, this kind of thinking is not so “green”)

Since I’ve yet to see anyone actually using one of these things–especially not any of the hundreds of Emory students I see day-in-and-day-out–I’ll believe it when I see it.
