With the approach of the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the near destruction of New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast, there’s been an uptick in news about the hometown:
- Critical Mass continues its Thinking About New Orleans series.
- The Guardian runs a similar account of the state of literature in Louisiana.
- Entertainment Weekly and R.E.M. team up on a video pairing Michael Stipe’s Katina photographs with the band’s “New Orleans Instrumental No. 1″ (Thanks for the tip Decatur Beth)
- Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal featured a page one article by my pal, Rick Brooks. It seems that on top of everything else, some New Orleans residents have to worry that someone will come along and knock their house down while they’re not paying attention. If you don’t have a subscription to the Journal, DangerBlong has posted the whole article to her blog.
- The New Orleans Musician’s Relief Fund is selling music downloads to raise money for their self-explanatory charity organization.

Rick is now an official adopted New Orleanian.
The article he wrote has driven a huge amount of attention our way and hopefully it will save these homes.

Rick is a good man, and he actually cares about our city. I’ve been schooling him in the New Orleans culinary arts as well. He should be able to represent us well as an honorary New Orleanian.
