Books & Music

I love the books. I love the music. When the worlds collide, it is like someone put chocolate in my peanut butter (or vice-versa). Clearly then, I was beside myself to hear the news that Joe Pernice of the The Pernice Brothers has signed a book deal with a division of Penguin Books. Pernice has previously written the fantastic novella Meat is Murder (rave review by me here). The news is doubly amazing, because the press release also announces that Joe is hard at work on the screenplay of Meat is Murder. A tip of the cap to Frank (TTT) who e-mailed me the scoop while driving his kids home from Disney World.

DJ, I need your help again!!!!! You liked Marisha Pessl’s Special Topics – maybe you can tell me who killed Hannah and what happened to Blue’s dad? There is much speculation on the Internet, but no one seems to know for sure.

By the way, I think the back cover with Marisha’s bio and pic is so hysterical because there’s nothing there! Nothing to speak of anyway. In the last few days I have changed my mind about SPICP a little in that I think I will be interested to see the back flap of her last book and hope it is full of very successful novels!
    Thanks – Cornelia

Sorry, Cornelia, we’re a “no spoiler” zone. Which is another way of saying that I don’t know the absolute correct answer to your question. I talked with the author about the open questions, and she always responded with “what do you think happened?”

Darn!! Not that you’re a no spoiler zone, but that you don’t know either or rather did not get the definitive answer! There is a discussion on Amazon about it, but they didn’t know either!

Also, DJ, the more I read this book, the more I like it, although it is still a “young person’s book” as it requires so much energy to read it – all the capitalizations and parenthetical documentation!!
    Thanks!
