Wow, I never thought that I'd sell anyone on this book with this review, much less Flava.

Flav: my contra pick, Radiohead.

Hmmm... Maybe I WILL read this after all. I am adrift in a sea of smug, self-absorbed alt-dads out here in San Fran, which makes this a tough sell, and I was rolling my eyes about the ironic t-shirt bit -- SO typical.

But the same time, he TOLD us he quit wearing them because no one noticed, which is actually kind of self-deprecating, so maybe he's all right. And while I disagree with the Clash comment as well -- crazy talk -- I think everyone has a least one music opinion that runs contra to the common line (for instance, I still don't understand what the big deal was about the Pixies, they were pretty good and all, but...), so I can't really fault him there, either.

So maybe I'll give it a read. Nice reviewin' there, Cayenne.

Nice review, my man. I've been satisfied, to this point, with reading reviews and commentary on this book without actually, you know, reading the book, but on the strength and passion of your thoughts, I may have to pony up. That is, if I can get past that moronic Clash comment. I'll just add that I took my oldest to JazzFest when he was a toddler, and while it wasn't my best-ever JazzFest experience, he danced around, ate a lot, napped during a few sets and had a big time.

Dr J: Yeah, he may be off the mark in a few places. For one, he complained that it was "hot" at the ACL Fest. You're a former Austin man, was Hyde Park full of unsavory academics and environmental scientists being all smug?

Point of order: My kids have had a good time in two separate visits to the Austin City Limits Festival (albeit in small doses). The Austin Kiddie Limits tent is always a good time.
