Here are the top 10 books for 2006 that I actually read. According to me. Links go to my posts on each. In order:
- Suite Francaise by Irène Némirovsky
- Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl
- The Twilight of the Superheroes by Deborah Eisenberg
- Only Revolutions by Mark Z. Danielewski (oops, post coming soon)
- King Dork by Frank Portman
- Absurdistan by Gary Shteyngart
- The Echoing Green by Joshua Prager
- The Great Deluge/Why New Orleans Matters
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- The Dream Life of Sukhanov by Olga Grushi
Production was way down this year, so a top 10 list represents a full 25% of what I read this year. Yikes. There’s always next year.
And if you want to check out my favorite tunes of the year, you can mosey on over here.

You read 40 books this year and your response is “yipes”. I think that’s pretty impressive and has to be at least triple what the average American reads. We should see what the total amount of books were read by BGBers.

Well, I know how many books I’ve read. Post your list of your favs for the year and give us your #.
As a group we’ve posted on about 87.5 books (175 books “read”/2 years of the blog). That number woefully underestimates the true total.

I’m so behind. I just picked up “Suite Francaise” (for, literally, $0.00 at my friendly neighborhood Borders), and I’m really enjoying it. “Special Topics” is lying under that. Think I’m gonna pick up “King Dork” this weekend.
And now I’m off to check out your music picks …

$0.00?! Do tell. Gift card? Larceny? Book store date? I think that you’ll appreciate the musical angle of King Dork. I’d love to see if it is a guy’s book or a music lover’s book. Keep me posted.

Border Rewards Points + coupon = $0.00! I’ll pick up King Dork this week and start on it first.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I have read exactly zero books and purchased, let’s see, zero CDs. I have also watched every episode of American Chopper. Pretty much a wash. Damn babies.
Anyway, look for the new, enlightened Mr. Wheel in the coming year.

Beth: If you haven’t already, check out the blog of the King Dork author and Mister T experience frontman, Frank Portman.
Flav: I’m looking forward to the Renaissance of Mr. Wheel.
