2006 Tournament o’ Books
The Morning News has announced the 16 contenders in this year’s literary smackdown. By my count, the BGB crew has read 8 of the 16 nominations (we’ve seriously considered reading another 3 or 4 of the titles). Not too bad. The actual tournament will begin in about a month, but the list was posted in advance so that we could play catch up. Govern yourself accordingly.

I did read Beasts of No Nation but that was in my “no-posting end of 2005 period” so you can add another book to the list that BGB readers have conquered. It is a VERY powerful, extremely upsetting read. It’s short so definitely worth picking up – especially to remind all of us that there is a whole continent where mass genocide continues to take place even though nobody here in the big US of A gives a damn.
