Hot off the Press (actually the TV)
I hope all you working stiffs out there have TIVO because Oprah just took down James Frey on her show. First, Oprah apologized and said how wrong she was to stand by Frey and then she proceeded to drill him on what was accurate and what wasn’t. In a nutshell:
- he was only in jail a few hours not a few years
- Lilly did exist and she did commit suicide but she didn’t hang herself (she slit her wrists)
- when he had a root canal (Frey thinks he had 2 but can’t confirm) it was not without anesthesia.Nan Talese was also on the show and pathetically somewhat stood by the fact that a memoir is the author’s recollection of how things happen. She didn’t really take full responsibility for not having the book fact checked.Overall - it was a total humiliating episode for Frey and he is pretty much finished.

I missed the show, but I caught the hi/lowlights on ABC News. What a pathetic sh*t that guy is. And now I’m even starting to think that that wild ride he took with the rehab center counselors to rescue Lily from the crackhouse, where he busted into a room in a warehouse and caught her giving oral sex to a homeless guy while in a crack-induced haze was probably embellished, too.
