Last Sunday PBS began showing Masterpiece Theatre’s Bleak House . I have heard good things from a few blogging buddies and plan to pick up with episode two. If you’ve never read the book or just need to brush up on the story you can find a summary at Cliffs Notes online. It looks like episode one covered chapters 1-14.You know where I’ll be Sunday night! This is one of my favorite Dickens titles. The story has literally everything… suspense, murder, legal rangling, orphans, crazy old ladies, crazy rich ladies, love, honor, crazy young men, and even an episode of spontaneous combustion. Can’t wait to see how Masterpiece Theatre handles the vision of someone’s insides running down the outside of a window pain. Yummy!!

I hate to flaunt my ignorance, but I have not read Bleak House. And I haven’t watched Masterpiece Theatre, well, ever. I’ll have to check it out.

I tuned into the B-House last night. It took a minute to get a handle on the characters and what was happening. Luckily the music clued us in when something suspenseful was happening. I should have read the Cliffs Notes, since missing the first 14 chapters was a bit of a liability. I’m a bit more clued into the story now, and I suspect treachery!

So glad you’re watching! I watched a few minutes of it last night but will watch the whole thing tonight. We bought the BBC miniseries of Martin Chuzzlewit for $15 this weekend. We’re going to saying “blimey” and “them’s the breaks” all of the time for a while.
Your suspicions are well justified!
Blimey.

I must have a Dickens blindspot or something. I had to Google “Martin Chuzzlewit”. No clue. In related news, Mrs. Cayenne says that the scene with the kid answering questions about the lady who gave him the sovereign was shown on some awards show last year what. She swears this happened. I am clueless. Blimey, indeed.
