[...] Here’s to hoping that you’re Mardi Gras is even twice as rockin’ as your Lundi Gras. This is my third “Letter from New Orleans” inspired by the excellent book Letters from New Orleans by Rob Walker. (Letter 1, Letter 1.5, and Letter 2). The purpose of my last visit was to work hard and volunteer some time. This time, we were going to have some fun. [...]

Read the NOPD story. That is some powerful stuff. Sad, too. What a mess. It seemed like an honest and fair assessment of things, too. The easy thing would have been to damn all concerned. The article is available online if anyone else wants to read it.

I just went across the street to pick up a copy of The New Yorker. In the end, I walked. The B. Dalton wasn’t going anywhere. I haven’t read the article about the NOPD yet, being at work and all, but my bartender friend is married to a realtively senior cop. So, I’ll be interested in what the article has to say. I did check out the pictures. Soem of what I saw, now months later, looks worse than that. Other areas look just fine. I’ll do better taking pictures next time out.

Also, great report. Thanks. Hope we can meet up with you in NO soon.
But what’s the big deal about gunfire over a holiday? I mean, it’s not like those bullets are going to come down after you shoot ‘em up in the air. (Item #11 that I do not miss about East Atlanta.)

DJC - Run, do not walk, to your nearest newsstand to purchase a copy of this week’s New Yorker. Great article on NOPD, and an amazing photo portfolio. Great issue.
