New novel Hunger’s Bride by Paul Anderson is so huge (1,360 pages, 4 1/2 pounds), its web site includes a slideshow of safe reading positions (fifth bullet). The NYT says it may even be good.

After you finish this one, let me borrow it and put it on my “Books That are Too Long for Me to Read” shelf, right next to “Atlas Shrugged”, which my mother-in-law got me for Christmas this year.

The problem with Atlas Shrugged is not its size, which can be daunting, its that if you read it, you run the risk of becoming an Ayn Rand asshole. Don’t believe me? It can happen to anyone.

Infinite Jest is the last book that I can remember just putting down and walking away from. My copy is currently under the axle of the ‘72 MG that I’m restoring in the back yard. Sturdier than cement blocks.
